Increased safety enclosures, also referred to as: increased safety junction boxes, are stainless steel (or GRP materials) enclosures designed to prevent the possibility of excessive heat, the ingress of water or dust, as well as being impact resistant, thereby providing a safety factor against breakdown. These hardened boxes are intended to house electrical equipment which will not generate an arc or spark during normal operation, and are suitable for use in Zone 1 or Zone 2 hazardous locations, e.g.: Class I, Division 2 Enclosures (class 1, division 2 ).
Ex Industries offers a wide selection of sizes of Exe Increased Safety and Class I, Division 2 terminal housings & local control enclosures, in both stainless steel and GRP materials. These housings can be used in IEC/ATEX Zone 1 & 2 areas, US and Canada Zone 1 & 2 areas and US Division 2 areas.
Zone 1: Ignitable concentrations of flammable gases or vapors are likely to exist under normal operating conditions, or may exist frequently because of repair, maintenance or leakage.
Zone 2: Ignitable concentrations of flammable gases or vapors are not likely to occur in normal operation, or may occur only for a short period of time during an accident or unusual operating condition.
